DARWEN player-manager Dennis Hill fielded four fresh faces - Oliver Telford, Craig Banks, Matthew Prendergast and Dale Bullen - but they still went down at Ashton Town.
Louis Wilkes went close for Darwen on 10 minutes, but the hosts took the lead on the stroke of half-time with Dunne on the scoresheet.
Matt Anderton saw a terrific shot saved as Darwen strived for an equaliser but, on 56 minutes, McNally scored a second for Ashton.
