Trafford produced a solid workmanlike performance to end Colne's recent good run of three straight wins.
Colne matched the Vodkat Division One leaders in most departments, except for their clinical finishing, and they were not helped when keeper Mark Crossley injured his shoulder in the warm-up.
This contributed to Colne falling behind after just eight minutes when Crossley was unable to catch Chris Mackay's free kick into the area and Andy Lundy's looping header into the far corner.
Crossley persevered for the rest of the first-half and Colne had him to thank for a brave save at the feet of Scott Barlow.
At the other end, Neil Harries came closest for Colne when he beat his man down the left but his shot was turned over the bar by Tom Read.
From the resulting corner, Kevin Urwin was unfortunate to see his header cleared off the line by Mackay.

In the second-half, centre-back Michael Rosser took over in goal and acquitted himself with credit. His deputy Chris Whitaker also produced a creditable performance as Colne started to dominate in midfield.
However, against the run of play, Mackay latched onto a loose ball and released Lundy down the left and he picked out Barlow in the middle who rifled home past the helpless Rosser.
Colne maintained their pressure and Liam Garbutt and Urwin both created chances but they were snuffed out by a resolute Trafford rearguard.
