GOAL: Kevin Urwin blasts Colne level, but his strike wasn't enough
GOAL: Kevin Urwin blasts Colne level, but his strike wasn't enough

Colne fell behind in this match after four minutes.

Ross Baxter came to collect a cross from a free kick, collided with a defender and dropped the ball at the feet of Chris Smith who gratefully tapped the ball into an empty net.

Ten minutes later Colne were back on level terms as the scene was repeated when Ted Cockett's cross was spilled by Greg Hall to Kevin Urwin who blasted home into the far post from an acute angle.

However, both keepers were to make amends for their early blunders by pulling off a string of outstanding saves.

Chances came fast and furious. Baxter was first to distinguish himself when Michael Cruz's backpass was intercepted by Luke Mack who was foiled by a brilliant double save.

Hall then denied Scott Gizon giving Colne the lead with a finger-tip save round his left hand post.

On the counter attack Danny Self picked out Smith in the area and, after a good first touch, he spun round and drilled the ball past the helpless Baxter to put the Manchester side in front.

Colne began the second half well and, after some early pressure, they were awarded a free kick.

Gavin Cooper's cross was met by Ben, who worked an opening for himself, but his shot went narrowly wide.

Ronnie Wright then found himself in space but his shot lacked pace and was easily saved by Hall.

Colne's best chance fell to Jamie Longley whose pace took him clear in front of goal but he pulled his shot wide.

Minutes later Urwin looked to have equalised when he rose to head Cooper's corner, but Hall threw himself across the goal and somehow tipped the ball round the post.

As the game progressed Colne got stronger and stronger and it seemed inevitable that they would equalise.

Liam Garbutt had two good chances. Cockett created several opportunities and Gizon's shot was saved by Hall, buut Maine Road held on.
