St Helens Town 0 Colne 4

COLNE stretched their fine run of wins to four games with another convincing 4-0 victory for the second consecutive week.

Colne began as they meant to go on and in the first minute Scott Gizon came close to opening the scoring when he met Chris Whittaker's cross only to see his effort go narrowly over the crossbar.

But two minutes later they opened their account when Jamie Longley cut inside from the left wing and his cross was volleyed home at the far post by Liam Garbutt.

On 10 minutes it could have been two when Michael Cruz crossed from the right and Longley's cushioned header was volleyed just wide by Ted Cockett.

Minutes later, Longley came close himself when he intercepted a pass and broke clear of the St Helens defence but his shot flew over the bar.

Longley's next cross from the left to the far post was knocked back by Cruz to Kevin Urwin who also fired over.

In the Colne goal, Mark Crossley was out quickly at the feet of Adam Gilchrist to prevent a shot and then pulled off a good save to deny Dave Dempsey.

This shocked the visitors back into action and Garbutt and Andy Howarth both came close before Gizon dribbled his way into the box before setting up Urwin who slotted home.

In the second half, Urwin continued to threaten the St Helens defence.

In the opening minute he was released through the middle by Cockett but his shot was deflected narrowly wide.

He then intercepted the keeper's clearance and raced past him only to blast his shot over the bar.

However, within minutes, he made amends with a pinpoint cross to Cruz who slid the ball home for Colne's third goal.

And on 55 minutes Cruz was the architect of the fourth goal when he played in Garbutt who waited for the keeper to committ himself before chipping over him into an open net.
