Chorley's poor run of home form continued after they failed to build on a bright start.

Danny Pilkington had put the Magpies in front on 10 minutes when, after receiving the ball on the edge of the penalty area, he showed a neat touch to evade two tackles before firing a shot past former Chorley keeper Lee Bracey.

Chorley produced little after that however and Rossendale got the upper hand and two goals from Tom Williams gave the visitors a half-time lead.

Rossendale extended their lead just after the break when keeper Peter Collinge allowed a long-range effort from Joe Booth to seemingly slip through his hands.

Phil Eastwood scored a fourth as Chorley's defence was carved open.

The Magpies got a late consolation goal from a harshly awarded penalty after Adam Farrell was adjudged to have been pushed in the box and Pilkington hit home the spot kick.
