Start delayed by rain at Edgbaston

A third washout in five days was looming large this morning in the rain-ravaged third Investec Test.

Forecast bad weather was already in evidence an hour before the scheduled start time, with a forlorn Edgbaston square under full cover.

That was still the case at 11am, when West Indies and England should have been taking the field for the final day of the series.

This match, already shorn of its first two days by persistent rain, appeared destined for a draw - irrespective of the elements.

England, who closed last night on 221 for five in reply to 426, hold a 2-0 series lead and have therefore already won the Wisden Trophy after victories at Lord's and Trent Bridge.
