JONATHAN Walker scored a creditable third place at Sunday's British Open Championship at the Three Sisters circuit, near Wigan, and declared: "This is just the start."
The OO Plate', as the event is known after the number plate bearing an OO' is awarded to the winner, is one of British karting's most prestigious titles, and is renowned for the winner-takes-all nature of the driving.
Starting from the third row of the grid for his two heats, the 19-year-old Ribchester racer survived a crash in his first race to finish sixth.

In the second, Walker had no such problems, and picked his way through from fifth on the grid to win. Despite being on the front row of the grid for the final, he knew that he was in a vulnerable position.
Reigning British Super One champion Chris Rogers is a tough customer - and as the karts threaded their way through the first lap's opening corners, he simply knocked the Blackburn ace clear off the track.
Dropping to sixth, Walker collected himself and stormed back to finish third at the chequered flag.
"I should've done better with the speed I had but third isn't a bad result, it's a good base to start from," he said afterwards.
The 2008 British Super One Championship is back at the Three Sisters in just two weeks time, and Walker regards last weekend's event as useful practice.
