A UNIQUE chance for motor racing fans to buy genuine kit and equipment used by Blackburn's Carl Fogarty has been announced.

The four-time World Superbike Champion is selling hundreds of items from the Foggy Petronas Racing team.

Fogarty, known simply as Foggy to racing fans, had a five-year spell with Malaysian petroleum giants Petronas and ended his association with the firm in 2006.

Now 500 items including leathers, helmets and memorabilia worn and signed by Fogarty will be auctioned next month.

Even racing parts, garage mechanics' tools, office and computer equipment and a fully fitted double-deck race trailer have been put up for sale.

The auction could raise millions of pounds for the NSPCC, which is Fogarty's official charity.

It is thought that as well as established racing teams showing an interest in the auction there will be many fans who will have an interest in the bids.

He said: "There should be something here for everyone from professional race teams, amateur racers to every motorcycling enthusiast.

"Our team always prided themselves on excellence so all the items, from the race trailer down to tools and equipment are of excellent quality and in great condition."

The Foggy team was set up by Fogarty in 2001 but after a disappointing five years in the World Superbike Championship and struggling to find sponsorship at the end of his deal with Petronas he was forced to make every one of his 16-strong team redundant.

His association with the company was blighted by disappointment - the bike didn't finish a single race and managed just two pole positions and two podium finishes.

A viewing day for the lots will take place at the Foggy team's base in Burton-on-Trent on Saturday, April 12.

Each of the 500 lots can be bid for and purchased online at wyleshardy.com.

The deadline for bids will be at noon on Thursday, April 17.

Fogarty is scheduled to attend the base at Unit 1, Stretton Business Park, Brunel Drive, Burton-on-Trent on the viewing day.
