Karting star Jonathan Walker is hoping to learn from his mistakes during the first round of the Winning Series Karting championship at La Conca in Italy last weekend.

The Peter De Bruijn Racing driver endured a disappointing WSK debut, qualifying at the bottom of the grid and struggling for pace in the races thereafter.

Finishing down in 24th and 25th places respectively, 19-year-old Jonathan, who lives in Ribchester, found himself destined for the last chance race, the Recupero'.

Refusing to blame his equipment or the team, Jonathan said: "I just wasn't quick enough and finished in 13th, missing the cut for the finals.

"It's probably the hardest circuit in the world to drive. I've never raced there before or tested at it and so most of my practice sessions were spent just trying to learn the track.

"I was following other drivers just to see what the racing lines were.

"However, I learned a lot and I know where everything goes now. I'm going to go testing there for a large part of July so I can be much better prepared for the World Championships, which are back at La Conca in September.

"I'm now looking forward to my next race, which is the O Plate Open Championship at Wigan at the end of March."
