DAVE Holden made an excellent start in his defence of the Wirral 100 Championship, with a first and second at Anglesey.
The Great Harwood flier missed out on the chequered flag in the first race by just 300ths of a second. But he hit back in the second outing of the afternoon to claim the top spot by more than five seconds.
He said: "In the first race, we were passing eachother twice a lap, we were side-by-side almost all the time and then he just pipped me in the end.
"But in the second race, I passed him and won by five seconds."
The results were even more impressive considering the last time Holden was out, at a sidecar festival last year, he turned over and suffered broken ribs.
He added: "I was pleased with the result and the bike. The accident knocked my confidence, but I'm right now."
The next round is on April 12 at Oulton Park.
Holden would like to thank sponsors THG Motorbodies, Longridge; Silkolene Oils, CMS Car and Commercial Repairs and Blackburn Van Hire.
