Rookie kart racer Sam King has scored his second win of the season.

After winning the first novice prize at the Three Sisters circuit, King, from Osbaldeston, triumphed again at the Hooton kart track near Chester.

"Winning best novice in my first race was much more than I had hoped," said King, 12.

"But winning again on Sunday was great, although I was lucky with the weather.

"It was raining during practice on Saturday but just stayed dry for the race."

After two steady qualifying heats, King was involved in an accident at the first corner during the final and was catapulted into the air, but fortunately he was able to recover and began to race for the lead.

After some nip-and-tuck racing, he took first place with four laps left and managed to hold on until the chequered flag.

King, who is a pupil at QEGS in Blackburn, races in the 125cc Mini Max class with Cat Racing Team, the Clitheroe-based outfit run by former British kart champion Chris Cattermole and his son Kirk Cattermole.

The result means King, who is contesting both the Cheshire Kart Club and Manchester and Buxton Kart Club championships, has only two more races to do before shedding his novice' tag.

His next outing is at the Three Sisters kart track, near Ashton-in-Makerfield, this weekend.
