THE grounding of the Riverdance ferry, beached by a freak wave off the coast at Blackpool, has forced the organisers of the North West Stages to cut a section of the opening tests on the Promenade.
With salvage crews unable to free the ship from the sands, and the northerly section of the promenade will remain closed next weekend.
As a result, the stage has been cut by 0.5 miles to 2.72 miles, and will now finish north of Bispham, near the Norbreck Hotel.
But organisers Motor Sport North West have secured permission from the sport's governing body, the MSA, to allow a demonstration run by one of rallying's most famous cars.
The ex-Michele Mouton Pikes Peak Audi Quattro S2 will give spectators of rallying Eighties-style ahead of the main field.
The car is now owned and driven by John Hanlon from Manchester and co driven by James Jones. Spectators will be able to see the car in action ahead of the Promenade and Pontins stages.
