Burnley duo claim class wins at Jim Clark Rally
12:00pm Thursday 7th June 2012 in Motor sport
BURNLEY'S Neil Bye and Clitheroe’s Russ Thompson both secured class wins at the Jim Clark Rally.
Co-driver Bye helped Carl Tuer to victory in his class in the National Rally, claiming 20th overall.
The same pairing also claimed a class win in the Reivers Rally, taking 16th position overall.
Thompson was first in class and third overall in the Challenge Rally.
Blackburn’s John Stone suffered disappointment, however, after being forced to retire from the National Rally.
The 48-year-old had been hopeful of a top three finish in the Scottish Borders to aid his chances in the MSA Asphalt Rally Championship.
But mechanical issues forced him to retire after the fourth stage in his Skoda Fabia WRC.
Withnell’s Paula Swinscoe did make it to the end of the event as co-driver to Matt Beebe, with the duo taking 12th place overall and second in their class.
