Mini man Steve Entwistle gets his 2010 season underway with this weekend’s Tour of Cheshire.
The Rishton-based rallyman, pictured, is contesting selected events in the NESCRO (North of England and Scotland Rally Organisation) and the HRCR (Historic Rally Car Register) Championships.
Alongside Steve in his immaculate 1964 Cooper S is Whalley's Chris Day, who is making a return to classic rallying after spending several seasons in motocross racing.
The pair have been seeded at car 55 in a full-house entry of 75, which will set off from the Wild Boar at Beeston, Cheshire, for a series of special tests and regularities before finishing around 5pm on Saturday.
Leading entries: 1: Paul Hernaman/H Crow (1972 Porsche 911) 2: Howard Warren/Cath Woodman (1965 Porsche 911); 3 Paul Wignall/ Fred Bent (1970 Porsche 911S).
* Steve Retchless won the Ryemoor Trophy Rally for the second year running, while for his navigator Iain Tullie it was a third win in three outings The pair dropped time at just two controls to come home over two minutes ahead of the opposition.
Ade Green/Kev Wilson took the runner-up spot, while Guy Robinson/ Charlie Wheeldon, on unfamiliar territory, were third. Reigning SD34 champions Terry Martin and Paul Taylor finished 12th overall after missing a route check.
Three places behind were Steve Jennings, formerly from Darwen, and Paul Allen, with Accrington’s Paul Buckel and Steve Butler in 26th place.
* ALL eyes will be on Phil Scholes at this weekend's Malcolm Wilson Rally.
For the Blackburn youngster is driving his Peugeot 205GTi as course opening car on the Cumbria-based event.
Scholes will run two minutes ahead of car one on the stages.
The all-gravel event starts in Cockermouth High Street at 8.50am on Saturday, before stages in Hobcarton, Comb, Wythop, Greystoke and Grizedale Forest.
