Entries flood in for tribute to Jack Neal

COMPETITORS from all over the UK will pay their own unique tribute to an East Lancashire motorsport enthusiast this weekend.

The well-known and much-respected MSA scrutineer Jack Neal, who died last year, will be remembered in a brand new event that bears his name.

Organised by Clitheroe and District motor club, the Jack Neal Memorial Rally takes place at Blyton airfield in Lincolnshire on Saturday.

Cars and crews will tackle 12 stages totalling 35 miles, but more importantly, all the money raised from the rally will go to Pendleside Hospice, where Jack spent his last days.

“It promises to be a great event for a good cause,” said clerk-of-the-course Bruce Lindsay.

“We have an excellent entry of nearly 50 cars, and we are happy to accept entries right up until Saturday. Blyton hasn’t been used since 1997, so everyone starts on a level playing field, which should make things interesting!

“As a stand-alone event, there’s no pressure on competitors, the idea is for everyone to enjoy their rallying – which was always Jack’s ethos – and raise some money for charity.

“Many drivers are taking wives, mechanics and friends as navigators, and in some cases, drivers and navigators are swapping places for the day.

“Mini Sport have four of their BMW Cooper S cars out this weekend, all with new drivers.

“But organising an event like this from scratch takes up a lot of resources, and almost every member of the club is either competing, marshalling or officiating, however we are looking for more volunteers on the day.”

Clitheroe DMC have been supported by several local companies, including MAD (Motorsport Advanced Developments) the engineering arm of the Mini Sport of Padiham Group, Gordon Birtwistle, from Proflex UK Ltd of Clitheroe, and Greyhound Ford of Accrington.

“We are vey grateful for their help, without them we simply wouldn’t have been able to run the event,” added Lindsay.

l For late entries contact Phillipa Smith tel 07591 036288 / 01254 603836 or email: pip21@live.co.uk, volunteer marshals should contact Chris Woodcock, 07973 830695 or email pdschris@aol.com.

Blyton airfield is situated five miles outside Gainsborough, visit cdmconline.com for directions.
