NOVICE rallyman Matt Griffin chalked up his best result of the season so far after finishing on the podium at the Somerset Stages.
Griffin, from Wilpshire, and co-driver Joe Cruttenden finished third in his class and 70th overall behind the wheel of Shropshire Rallyschool VW Lupo.
“It was a fantastic result for us, especially as it was our first attempt at the rally,” explained Matt, who is a motorsport student at Myerscough College.
“We didn't have it easy either. The Rally First 1.4-litre class is very competitive with new crews joining on every round.
“We picked up a puncture half-a-mile from the end of stage three, which lost us 20 seconds and a possible second in class.
"The rest of the event went brilliantly, and it was our first-ever podium in the BTRDA Championship.”
Griffin now moves up to fifth place in the Rally First drivers championship.
