RALLYMAN Matt Griffin’s bid for the Formula 1000 Forest Championship has been hit by a lack of sponsorship.
The 17-year-old student from Blackburn finished an excellent fifth in class on last weekend’s Quinton Stages, based in mid-Wales.
And the result was enough to put Griffin, who is studying for a national diploma in motorsport at Myerscough College, third in the series, just four points behind leader Alistair Sutherland.
But a lack of funds means he will be forced to miss the next round in Alnwick, Scotland.
He said: “I can’t competein the next rally as we simply don’t have the money. But I’m hoping to be able to compete in the last two rounds, the Bulldog and Cambrian rallies.
“Finishing fifth on the Quinton was a great result for me. I’m still on a steep learning curve as far as rallying is concerned and there is still much to discover.
“I’d like to thank John Goff and his team from Rallyschool for preparing the car and allowing me to drive last weekend.”
The Quinton Stages comprised 43 miles of gravel roads in the classic Mid-Wales forests and the famous Halfway and Epynt stages.
