WHALLEY father and son Nigel and Ben Rea did not have it all their own way at the North West 200 in Northern Ireland.

The motorcycle pair travelled across the Irish Sea for the event but Ben in particular was hampered by technical issues.

“I had some problems with the engine and then overheating,” said the 21-year-old.

“I was working on it until two o’clock on the Thursday night.

“Then because I hadn’t been able to get much track time I had some handling issues and I wasn’t able to race because it was too dangerous.

“But dad finished 32nd in the first race and 26th in the second race, which was quite good because it was a massive grid with some superstars. It’s great to compete against those guys.”

The event, however, was sadly marred by an accident involving Worcestershire rider Simon Andrews, who died in hospital on Monday.
