ACCRINGTON’S Steve Johnson has picked up some crucial points in the ANWCC Championship after a string of recent good results.
Johnson finished 31st overall and seventh in class alongside co-driver Steve Butler in their red Nissan Micra 1275 at the Toyota Harlech Stages in north Wales.
The duo followed that up with 19th overall and third in class at the Chris Kelly Memorial Stages as part of the Manx National Rally.
Johnson then had a creditable finish at the CSMA Autosolo event at Lymm Services on Sunday.
“All three counted towards the ANWCC Championship and the last two also counted towards the SD34 Championship,” Johnson said.
“I went off road at Harlech so I had two bad stages because we had some front wing damage and then a puncture, which is unusual for me.
“But after that I put some Falken tyres on the handling really improved. I was very pleased with the result on the Isle of Man.
“It’s 33 years since I lasted watched a rally there and I was almost as fast in the wet as in the dry.”
Ribchester’s Daniel Boardman won his class at the Chris Kelly Memorial Stages alongside co-driver Steve Coombes in their Honda Civic Type R EP3 2000, finishing 37th overall.
