PAUL Heys was in fine form at Red Rose Classic MCC’s trial at Pendlebury Bait, near Todmorden.

The Rawtenstall rider cleaned all 40 sections on his Cub, the prefect practice result for the 2010 Scottish Pre-65 winner ahead of May’s big event.

Second spot went to Steve Thomas, who dropped just one mark on his Bantam, with Graham Fallows taking third on his Honda.

Freezing temperatures and a howling gale greeted the 47 riders at the bleak moorland venue between Todmorden and Bacup.

Although a smaller entry than in previous Red Rose trials, it was quality rather than quantity, with Heys, former World Trials Champion Yrjo Vesterinen, and former speedway star Eric Boocock all competing.

Clerks of the course Mark Gregg and Bernard Whittaker laid out 10 sections and four laps, using the quarry and surrounding area at Pendlebury Bait.

There were class wins for Owen Hardisty (Ariel), Ian Johnston (Triumph), Chris Nutter (Ariel), Ian Livingstone (Cub) and Phil Holey (Honda).

The club would like to thank the landowner, the clerks of the course, and the spectators.

Round four takes place at Lee Quarry, Bacup on April 6. The nearest postcode is OL13 0JB.
