NEW Blackburn Hawks signing Lee Pollitt is confident last season’s ‘Invincibles’ can at least match their achievements of 2014/15.

Hawks went through the entire league campaign unbeaten in 24 games to win the Moralee Conference title and then the end of season play-offs.

Pollitt has been drafted in to new head coach Daniel MacKriel’s side from Widnes Wild, who the Hawks defeated 9-0 in a friendly on Sunday, and where he scored an impressive 27 goals.

But the 19-year-old has proved affected against the puck in his young career too and he hopes his versatility will help to keep Hawks ahead of the rest.

“There’s a big pressure there with the team being undefeated last year, but I think I’m ready now to take the step up and contribute to the points,” said Pollitt.

“I like to have the puck and put the puck away, but through juniors I’m used to playing off the puck too.”

“I play quite a good defensive game in my opinion, so I don’t mind playing D as well.

The Salford-born starlet is looking to another season of success for Hawks.

“I think we can do just as well if not better than last year,” he said. “I think the team’s probably stronger than last year with quite a few signings and Budzie (MacKriel) taking over the coaching.

“I’ve got to know him over the past few months and I’m very confident the team’s going to put up a good show this season.”

Finnish defender Kim Miettinen is also relishing the new challenge.

“I haven’t played for about three or four months so I’ve had a long summer,” he said.

The 21-year-old is one of two import players at the club, along with Canadian RJay Berra, and is already well travelled.

“I’ve played for Finland Under-20s then after that I went to the United States for a season and last season I was in Russia,” he added. “I’m pretty excited (about playing in England) and maybe I can bring something different.”
