THIS Blackburn Hawks team never gives up right until the last second, something we proved this weekend.

We kept our unbeaten run going against Sheffield Spartans with a 4-4 draw, but we were a bit disappointed not to get the win.

In the end we needed a goal in the last minute to get the draw, but it was the least we deserved, and it’s now 11 league games this season without losing.

We were far from our best on Sunday night but I still think we were the better team. Credit to Sheffield though, they are a good side and they made it difficult for us.

They came here with a game plan and they stuck to it. They clogged up the middle quite a lot and we struggled to break them down.

We still had plenty of chances though, I think we out shot them two to one but their keeper had a brilliant game, it was probably the best I’ve seen him play.

It was frustrating for us really, we struggled to get anything going. I don’t know if there was a bit of rust left over from the Christmas period, it was just one of those games, even if we did have plenty of chances to win it.

It was a bitter-sweet result really. Our nearest rivals Solway beat Billingham on Saturday but then lost at Whitley on the Sunday, so we are still six points ahead at the top of the league with a game in hand.

It would have been nice to take full advantage of that result but it does mean that a draw wasn’t the end of the world for us when you look back at the weekend.

We have to improve from here though.

Being top of the league at this stage of the season is new to us, a lot of the lads have never been in this position before so it’s a different kind of pressure for us as everyone is going to be working really hard to try and beat us now. We are usually the ones doing the chasing, and it’s usually Solway who have been top, but I’m sure we can deal with it.

Next week is a good chance to get back to winning ways as we play Manchester Minotaurs. They haven’t won a game yet this year but they are not going to come and roll over. It’s a derby game and they will be up for it, but we need to put on a bit of a performance and show people what we can do.
