IT was disappointing to lose against Solway on Sunday but we’ve confirmed second place in the league now and that’s a really good achievement for the club.

Sutton’s defeat at Solway on Saturday meant that we can no longer be caught for second position. At the start of the season we set out to win the league but that wasn’t to be, and to finish second is still progress for us.

We finished fourth in the table last year and now we’ve finished second.

It’s our best league finish since 1996 and there was money around the club in those days and some big players so, even though that was a higher level, it’s a great achievement to be matching what the club did back then.

When our coach Jared Owen and Daniel Brittle came to the club we were fighting relegation, but now every year we’re in the mix for the play-offs – even though some people doubt us at the start of every season and say we won’t make it.

Jared and Dangy both know what they’re talking about and their coaching is good.

But I think the main thing is that they’ve given the team belief that maybe we didn’t have before that, they have given us confidence.

It was a bit of a strange game against Solway because both sides were short of players, neither were at full strength, and it was disappointing to lose.

I didn’t play because I’ve been struggling with a shoulder injury for a few weeks now and I don’t know yet if I’ll play at Sutton in our last league game of the season on Sunday. But I’m sure we’ll have everyone back for our cup game against Solway a couple of weeks later, when we just need a draw.

That will be an interesting game.

After that it’s the play-offs and that’s a different mentality to the league, it’s do or die and I like that.

There’s absolutely no reason why we can’t win both the cup and the play-offs.
