BLACKBURN Hawks were denied a perfect weekend after conceding two goals in the final 35 seconds at Whitley Warriors.

Hawks thrashed Moralee Conference bottom club Telford Titans 8-1 at the Blackburn Arena on Saturday thanks to a brace from player-coach Jared Owen and further goals from David Meikle, Dan Mackriel, captain Chris Arnone, Adam Brittle, Tom King and Canadian import Jon Adams.

They travelled to Whitley on Sunday night hoping to secure a second victory in two days and they were in front when Brittle scored.

Whitley levelled through Adam Reynolds during the second period but Brittle put Hawks back in front following good work from Mackriel and Adams.

Hawks then moved 3-1 up with only six minutes of the match remaining as Adams found the net, but Whitley pulled their netminder to allow for an extra forward and Jamie Tinsley quickly pulled a goal back.

The match seemed to be over when Matt Viney put Hawks 4-2 in front but Reynolds made it 4-3 with only 35 seconds left before scoring his third of the game to secure a shock equaliser in the dying seconds.

Despite that draw, Hawks strengthened their hold on second place in the table after Billingham Stars lost at home to Sutton Sting.

Billingham have a game in hand but are four points behind with only three matches left to play as the Hawks look to secure second spot
