AARON Davies enjoyed a triumphant Blackburn Hawks return on Sunday night after showing former club Deeside Dragons what they are missing.

The young forward only left the Arena for Deeside earlier this season but, after struggling to settle, secured his return to Blackburn late last week in time for the visit of the Dragons – before promptly scoring the winner in Hawks’ 4-1 win.

Hawks were far from at their best, as they struggled to get the better of their visitors for two periods, but Davies’ goal gave them a 2-1 advantage and they never looked back.

Assistant coach Danny Brittle, said: “Aaron scored the game winner and we are all delighted to get him back. The club did really well to get him in in time for Sunday.

“He was fired up as you can imagine for the match against his old club and he showed what a major asset he can be.

“He has that bit of bite and adds something to our forward line. We have been missing a little bit of that over the past few matches.

“Aaron left in the summer but had a bad start to the year at Deeside. He maybe fell out with a few but we are glad to have him back.”

Deeside took the lead on Sunday through Brian Worrall but Hawks quickly got themselves back level, thanks to Sam Dunford.

Once Davies made it 2-1 early in the third period, the hosts finally started to take control as further strikes from Ivo Dimitrijevs and Matt Viney ensured a 4-1 victory.

Brittle admits Hawks struggled for long periods on Sunday and believes the absence of a match the previous weekend could have been the reason – as they look for ways to combat any repeat problems.

Brittle added: “From our point of view, we really made it hard work on Sunday. That always seems to be the case when we are playing off a blank weekend.

“You look back over the past few seasons and we do struggle when we haven’t played the week before. Myself and Jared Owen have been looking at ways to stop this happening.

“We now have matches every weekend for a couple of months, so it shouldn’t affect us, but we do need to find a way to make sure we don’t let it happen in the future.

“Maybe we have to play more challenge matches and play against our under 18s more to stop that happening.

“We will keep looking at that, because we don’t want that to stop us achieving what we want to achieve.”
