Former Burnley loan star Andrew Cole released by Sunderland

ANDREW Cole has been released by Sunderland.

Manager Roy Keane's decision not to offer the striker a new contract could pave the way for the 36-year-old to make a permanent switch to Burnley, where he spent the last three months of the season on loan.

The former Manchester United and England marksman is wanted by Clarets boss Owen Coyle after scoring six goals in eight starts.

Stanislav Varga, who also arrived at Turf Moor on loan from the Black Cats in January, makes up a quartet of experienced players who have not been offered new deals.

Quick Owen - get begging him to come to join the Turf Moor revolution!

He'll be the star signing of the season!

Surely it should be stated that Cole is also a former Blackburn Rovers player?

I know it a touchy subject down at the LET but you cannot change the facts.

I remember Cole playing for Rovers. Scored the winning goal at Cardiff in the Worthington Cup Final
Can you imagine a Telegraph article overlooking that a player once played for Burnley?

4 posts on this Burnley article, 3 of them from Rovers fans. We really must start a blog for you to write about your own team.

Calm down son, we all know that reason for that is that there's hardly any Burnley fans left.

Plus your average Burnley fan can't afford the internet. And it's hard to work a keyboard with webbed fingers.

By the way Editor, that piece in the Burnley section about the Top 20 Burnley moments is a fascinating read - a really accurate description of the dingle's achievements.

I recommend that everyone have a look at it!

You really need to start employing journalists who know their stuff and to stop pandering to the claret minority.

Publisher.. I expect more respect from you any more talk of that nature and you will be seeking new employment, which is very hard to find in your neck of the woods.

Burnley fans can manage with webbed fingers no problem. I understood it was the rovers fans that struggled focussing with their three heads.

And last but not least, isn't ewood they have renamed Deadwood because of the lack of home support. I have heard that NASA intend to send new astronauts there to train, as it is the only place on earth with no atmosphere.

Editor,

As you're no doubt aware, you work for me so less of the impertinence, or you'll be back reporting on bonny baby competitions! - something that is no easy feat in your town, as not many people find children with hideous physical genetic defects very bonny.

I know that there's not been many stories to report on from Turf Moor since Blimpgate, but with any luck the BFC bosses can convince Chico to return for a one off show, that combined with the signings of a few unknown Scottish journeymen should create quiet a buzz around the job clubs/poundshops of Burnley.

PS Re: the Top 20 Claret Moments:- I commend you on an excellent piece of investigative journalism there!

"obviously nobody wants him if we get him!!"

Brilliant. Just about sums Burnley up. Must be great to have such a rosey future.
