Gard of honour at Blackburn Sunday League

NEW Gardeners capped a memorable comeback season by being named the Blackburn Sunday League’s team of the year.

The Darwen-based club, relegated last season, hit back in style to win the Division Two title and clinch the Blue and White Rosebowl.

Darwen manager, Dennis Hill, was guest of honour at the awards held at Mill Hill WMC.

There were two special awards presented on the night with Steve Eggleston winning the League Special Award while Mick O’Horo picked up the EW Cartons Merit Award. O’Horo, who started playing in the BSL in the mid-1980s, has served the Station as player and now manager for the last 10 years.

In that time they have won the Divison One title and the Rosebowl and this season reached the semi final of the LFA Trophy.

Eggleston, 47, is one of the league’s most successful players and shows no signing of quitting.

Eggy has played in the league since his teens and in that time has won the Division One title and Rosebowl five times each.
