Fearns win at long last!

IF AT first you don’t succeed, try, try and try again.

That’s exactly what Fearns High Year 10 rugby team did in an inter-school competition and at last they succeeded.

For three years, the current Year 10 failed to grab first place in the rugby competition, but at last their determination paid off.

Hardy rugby players Tom Willetts and Tyler Waddington went into their fourth competition daring to dream and for once they were rewarded.

They played to their best, as did the rest of the team, and they won. Their fellow players were shocked and so were they.

They tackled schools from around the area; Whitworth, BRGS and All Saints, but they had no expectation of winning. The first two games they lost but were able to get through to the final as the other teams also lost – all except one BRGS.

They went into the final with no thoughts of a win but they drew and once all the points were totted up, Fearns were crowned winners. Tyler said: “It was really good to win for Fearns as we never won in Year 7, 8 or 9. We didn’t expect much as we normally get destroyed.”

PE teacher Simon Mayoh said: “I was delighted for the lads, especially after they had tried so hard over so many years.

“It was great for them to finally get their hands on the trophy.”
