By Steve Tinniswood, Sports reporter
PUPILS from Darwen Vale are Streets ahead after taking part in the latest initiative run by Blackburn Rovers star David Dunn.
The popular midfielder founded Streets UK – which stands for Sports To Radically Educate Everyone To Succeed – along with John Magee.
Having already run two highly successful programmes, the latest, entitled Invest in the Best, using the universal language of sport as a vehicle to engage with young people and focuses on helping students progress and improve their grades.
The Year 10 pupils, all specially selected by Darwen Vale, came out of the programme with a new sense of belief to work that little bit harder to be the best they can.
The Invest in the Best programme came with an AQA qualification.
Dave Hallam, deputy head at Darwen Vale, said: “The overall feedback from the staff and the students has been extremely positive and we look forward to working in partnership with STREETS UK for the future development of our students.”
Invest in the Best programme is the third programme following on from Wise Monkey for primary schools and also the Chapters Programme for secondary schools and training providers.
All three have used sport to get the message across.
The sports range from Table tennis to dodgeball and Zumba to Badminton – working in partnership with Blackburn Rovers Community Trust and other community and business partner's, including Energy Zone, Roman Road.
Magee said: “We are extremely grateful to know that we are having such a positive impact on the young people who take part in the STREETS programme.”

Do not ever tell me to keep my nose out. Tell Glen to be honest with the fans. Glen is a coward and bully who hides behind people like you. He does not answer questions on here he tells you that he has info that is so important that fans cant possibly be told.
Do not ever believe the the bullsh** that Glen cannot tell you that BRFC could have sanctions imposed for wrong doing because it will allow venkys to know what they may have done.
Now before any body comes on here and say that I am wrong ask the FA about what may happen or ask one of the MP`s that Glen speaks to or ask Glen.
If he succeeds with his action the FA will impose sanctions against our club , That is what he is not being honest about.
Do not post your usual threats and accusations that I am a dingle or somehow involved with Venkys because I`m not I ask you please to just let Glen reply and if I am wrong I will not post again
So Glen Mullan and all your supporters Please
1.Guarantee that BRFC will not have sanctions imposed against the club regardless of who is the owner as a result of any action that you are taking.
2 Accept full responsibility if your actions result in BRFC to be relegated.
3. Allow fans to have their say in what you are doing by way of secret ballot and publish such results.
4 Publish an agenda for your open meeting and allow fans who feel too intimidated to ask questions in person an opportunity to put their concerns in writing.
Glen a personal question you are using the excuse that you will not answer my questions because you feel that it is not the place to do so but you are looking at what your supporters like bill carson are accusing me of so why dont you tell them that this is not the place to discuss.
Your big chance Glen be honest !!!!!!

A newspaper message board is not the place for us to talk about these meetings. We have an open floor meeting on Sunday at 2pm at Longshaw club, and I can assure you and anyone else the route we have taken is to protect the clubs long term future, that is the only reason that we have not released the details of what was in the files we took the Prem, FA and Sports Minister. I cannot elaborate any further but come along on sunday and the whole committee will be there to take questions
Unanswered reply
I am not asking you to give any details Glen and you know full well the above post does not ask you to give any details, fans have a right to know the possible out come of your actions.
I would not attend an open meeting, you only need to see the abuse and threats you get on here for asking a question.
I think you are not being honest with the fans and could do a great deal of damage to the club. Whilst I fully accept that if there has been any wrong doing it should be investigated I feel you should also allow the fans to know the possibility of what action could be taken against BRFC which could affect their league status.
Given the fact the your meetings with MP`s and The FA have been reported in the press you cannot be naive enough to think that the owners are not aware of you making a complaint. They will also be fully aware of the punishments that either the FA or legal system may impose.
One of the many issues with BRFC fans have with the current owners are lack of communication and honesty with regard to the events at Ewood, this leads to the rise of conspiracy theories.
I feel that you are guilty of the same.
There are a lot of fans that cant or wont be able to attend your meeting, fans who do attend may or may not feel to intimidated to raise points.
I feel that you are deliberately failing to communicate to the fans of BRFC the consequences of the actions you are pursuing and that it would affect whoever owns the club.
A precedence for the offence of wrong doing would be the punishment given to Swindon Town.
Regardless of who owns the club relegation double relegation or points loss would not be beneficial to BRFC
