Ace Ammi is top of the pots

THE Blackburn and Darwen Snooker League brought it’s season to a close when it held its finals night at Rishton Golf Club.

And it was an evening that belonged to Ammi Dippolito of Feniscowles who was crowned the league’s new singles champion and West View’s Dave Stephens and Ian McClure who took the doubles crown.

It was an awesome display of snooker from Dippolito who overcame Stanhill’s Johnny Dean to 3-1.

Dippolito got off to a flyer and was in total control after a finely crafted 41 break.

But a foul on the last red, he gave Dean his chance – but he opted not to take the free ball and only realised his error when he cleared the table until, with only the black left the penny dropped that there wouldn.t be enough points.

Dippolito took a rather more subdued second frame 43-33.

Dean rallied in the third to keep him in the final but Dippolito sealed victory in the fourth frame thanks to knocks of 26 and 20 to win the frame 60 -16 and take the title.

The doubles final proved to be a five frame thriller, with Stephens and McClure edging out this year’s surprise package of Alan Heaton and Simon Ashe from the Alexandra.

Heaton and Ashe had already seen off some good pairings, including Bridges and Burns from the Stanhill and Cemetery’s Jennings and O’Kane.

The vastly more experienced West View pairing took the opening two frames, 70-49 and 58-33, while Heaton and McClure levelled the final wining the next two.

The deciding frame was a jittery affair but Stephens showed all his years of experience to capitalise on any errors made by Heaton and picked up the points to take frame and match 56-26.
