Girls try hard in rugby league taster event

VICORY Super St Augustine’s who won the girls rugby league event at Accrington Academy
ST Augustine’s High School took the honours in an inter borough girls rugby league competition.
The tournament was held at Accrington Academy and teams that took part were Haslingden High, Accrington Academy, Clitheroe Royal Grammar, School, Hollins, St Augustines, Alder Grange, Mount Carmel and holders St Christopher’s.
It was organised by Neil Quinn, the East Lancashire community rugby league coach.
Teams were split in to two groups of four with the winners going through to the final and the second place teams playing off for third place. In Group A, St Augustine’s drew with Haslingden in their final game but went through having scored more tries.
Group B was even tighter with Hollins coming out on top on tries scored having finished level on points with Accrington Academy and CRGS.
Haslingden beat Accrington Academy in the third place play-off The final was an end-to-end affair with St Augustine’s running out winners over Hollins by two tries.
