Dominate Dale are Cock-a-hoop after win

ROSSENDALE Senior Colts have had a season to remember following a dramatic ending to the campaign.

Having won the Raging Bull NW Senior Colts League, Dale added two cups to make it a treble winning season – but it could not have been any closer.

First, Rossendale won the Raging Bull Colts League Cup final but only after beating Lymm on try ‘countback’ after the sides were tied at 20-20.

Tries by Sam Bedlow, Danny Rylance and, crucially, a third touch down by Nicholas Street sealed a second piece of silverware for dominate Dale.

The following week, Lancashire’s best took on Yorkshire finest for regional bragging rights in the Cock of the North Cup.

And again, it was just as exciting.

The competition, staged at Fleetwood RUFC, had pitched the top four teams from the North West against their counter parts from Cumbria, the North East and Yorkshire. And it was Rossendale and Wharfedale who won through to the final.

Dale were in confident mood and dominated the opening half so were disappointed to be level at 7-7 at the break – thanks to a Sam Lowthian try and Will Sharratt conversion.

Wharfedale ran in two early tries – one of which was converted – after the break to lead 19-7.

But Dale hit back with a second Lowthian try and then following a chip over the top from Tom Bedlow, it was brother Sam who touched down. Sharratt crossed for a third try to put Dale in control.

And they made sure of victory when Matt Jackson, Dale’s player of the year, touched down in the corner to round off a memorable season.
