NIAMH Robinson is the golden girl of Pioneer 79 Swimming Club after medal glory at the North West Regional Age Group Championships.

The 11-year-old won gold in the 100m breaststroke and then added a second in her favourite 200m breaststroke, winning in a time of 2mins 57.81 secs – some eight seconds ahead of her nearest rival. And she capped a memorable championship by taking a silver medal in her least favourite 400m individual medley with a National Qualifying Time.

Robinson also finished in fourth place in the 100m backstroke final.

Joseph Murray also medalled at the Manchester Aquatics Centre, the 11-year-old winning silver in the 200m breaststroke in 3mins 13.37secs, following up his fourth place in the 100m breaststroke.

A total of 15 Pioneer swimmers took part in the event held over two weekends.

Olivia Nicholls, aged 10, finished 6th in the IM and then eighth in the 400m freestyle.

Natasha Rogan, who only recently turned 10, took an impressive fifth place in the 100m butterfly in 1.24.08.

In the girls 11 years category, Meghann Leaver and Alice Harding, who also swims for Haslingden Swimming Club, competed in nine events between them and although the did not reach any finals, they came away with a number of PBs.

Jasmin Scott, also a member of Accrington SC, swam in seven events, finishing just one second outside the NQT in the 100m freestyle.

In the 13 year boys, James Harding, another Haslingden SC swimmer, was eighth in the 100m backstroke.

Thomas Gilroy was fifth in the 100m backstroke final in the 14 year boys while John McKavett just missed out on a final place, as he was reserve for both the 200m and 400m freestyle.

Others swimmers to take part were Alice Harding, Jasmin Scott, Mesha Ingham-Francis, Jessica Magee, Chloe Shields and Lois Clossick while Declan Charnock – who achieved a handful of qualifying times – missed the finals due to a shoulder injury.
