Colne & Nelson 44

COLNE and Nelson came out on top in their derby clash with Burnley Seconds to climb up to fifth place in Division Three North in the Halbro North West League.

The All Blacks struck first when Dean Edwards converted a penalty under the sticks.

The visitors then grabbed the first try of the match when, following some strong work by the Colne pack, Adam Padgett powered his way over the line. Edwards converted to make it 10-0. Colne added a second try when Luke Edwards was driven over the line by the powerful pack.

Burnley grabbed their first points of the game five minutes before break with a penalty leaving Colne leading 15-3.

Colne started the second half strongly and Connor Kinnane scored a brilliant solo effort, outpacing the Burnley defence to score in the corner. Edwards converted and Colne led 22-3.

Edwards was on the scoresheet again soon after but this time it was a try when a catch and drive from a lineout resulted in him touching down.

A fifth try arrived five minutes later when Colne attacked from deep and made good ground before the ball was shifted to Kinnane who again outpaced the Burnley defence and dotted the ball down over the whitewash. The kick was converted which left Colne leading 34 points to 3.

Burnley responded with a try after some strong forward play but Colne had the final say. First, Jordan Cardwell gathered a cross kick from Kyle Hargreaves to race clear then, straight from the kick off, Hargreaves offloaded to Edwards who ran half the length of the pitch to score.
