Wigton 55

Burnley 7

Burnley made their first visit into Cumbria for a number of years and unfortunately did not begin playing until the second half. As expected Burnley made some last minute selections and gave a first team debut to Anthony Clark and only after 4 minutes he was having a 10 minute break as he came in off side completely stopping a try for the home team, penalty taken 3-0, there was only one more try scored whilst Burnley had 14 men. But by half time Wigton were up 34-0.

The second half and Burnley's pack showed some go forward and with conditions deteriorating both sides were playing very well. Burnley lost another player to the bin and Burnley determination showed as Jack Stockdale went over for the only try by the away side, converted by Sam Mounsey.

Looking back Wigton back row were fast and mobile, the second row carried around the park well, and their outside backs made good ground every time. Burnley's stand out Player was Rob Lawless and Dave Lord got the home teams man of match. Individually Burnley have enough players to play at this level, but at the moment the opposition seem quicker in thought and body.

We move on to Bolton at home this week.
