IT’S been a busy time both on and off the pitch for Burnley Tornados American Football club.

While the senior men’s side have an anxious wait to see if they have been accepted to join the league, the club has made significant changes at committee level.

And in the junior ranks, the youth kitted and under 12s flag teams are already looking forward to next season - having recently held their annual awards evening.

The seniors played their final ‘assessed’ game against Morecambe Storm at Holt House before league officials make a decision about whether to allow them to join.

And they finished their campaign on a high with a 13-6 win over the Division Two side.

Jamie Hawkes scored the first touchdown following an interception. The second was scored by Josh Carrington who latched on to a fine pass from new quarter back Phil Moss.

Meanwhile, the Tornados has announced that ex-player and coach Cameron Stewart - who has been with the club since it was formed in 2008 - as the new chairman.

He replaces long-standing chairman Ivan Jackson who will become vice chairman and also the Tornados’ first honourary president.

The changes were announced at the youth presentation evening where awards to the best young players were handed out.

The winners were: ,U12s most improved flag player - Blossom Bates; U12s flag MVP - Harrison Hill

U17s most improved flag player - Ryan Parker; U17s flag MVP - Khan Durnall

Kitted rookie of the year - Toby Scott; Kitted players player - Tom Lockett; Kitted Offensive player - Oliver Norwood; Kitted defensive player - Shane Thompson; Kitted most improved player - George Nicholson-Wilson; Kitted MVP - Tom Doherty.

Meanwhile, the youth kitted team are recruiting players while numbers for the U12s flag team are looking up with 10 players attending the club’s recent introduction session.

A free taster session for both teams will be held at Holt House, Harrison Drive, Colne on Saturday from 9am.
