Colne and Nelson 61

Burnley Seconds 5

COLNE and Nelson came out on top in their local derby with Burnley Seconds on Saturday.

Last season, Colne were locking horns with Burnley’s first XV but a league restructure has seen the Holt House side drop in to the Halbro North West League and they proved to be too strong for their neighbours.

Colne could call on a strong side bolstered by the family trio of Andy Bullock and sons Zach and Alex.

The home side crossed the line in the fourth minute and underlined their dominance with two more inside the opening quarter of an hour.

A superb kick, catch and touch down from Kyle Hargreaves opened the scoring with Jordan Cardwell and Zach Bullock also crossing the whitewash - Cardwell adding two conversions to open up a 19-0 lead.

Connor Kinnane raced on to a popped pass from Cardwell for a fourth try.

Colne’s dominance continued and in the 25th minute, Ernes Tino breezed past the despairing Burnley defence with ease.

The tries kept on coming for Colne with Gary Kenyon and skipper Luke Edwards scoring fine solo effort sbefore Burnley replied to make it 47-5 at the break.

In the second half there were further tries Edwards and Tino to seal the win
