KEELY Battrick has set her sights on becoming world junior kick boxing champion after winning the European full contact title.

The 15-year-old from Accrington was in superb form to beat Dublyn Doole from Great Yarmouth in a contest she dominated from the first bell to the last to stretch her unbeaten record to eight years.

While the title fight in Wigan went the distance, Battrick destroyed Doole with her ‘axe kick’, flooring her in the second and third rounds and also forcing a standing count of eight in the fourth.

“Dublyn is a very hard opponent, you have to be to fight at this level, but the referee said he was very close to stopping the contest on three occasions,” said Billy Battrick, Keely’s dad and coach who runs Fit2Fight Kickboxing Club.

“Keely absolutely battered her and, in the end, Dublyn was just holding on in the fifth round just trying to get to the final bell.

“Keely is just getting and better all the time, learning new skills and adapting to every challenge that comes her way. At the moment, no-one can live with her and she will get a shot at a world title.”

The Mount Carmel student has been kick boxing since she was seven and her only two defeats have come in her first year of competing.

Since then she has was won 69 fights, a record that has seen her win five English titles, five British titles, the Commonwealth crown and she has now lifted the WKU European crown.

Now dad Billy wants her daughter to complete the set with a shot at the world title next month.

“We are all incredibly proud of what Keely has achieved so far but the main aim has always been the world title,” said Battrick senior.

“This is something she has always set her sights on and that is definitely the next aim for us.”

“Over the last few years we have found it increasingly difficult to find genuine opponents to face Keely because she is that good so we need to be competing at this level.

“Her record is incredible and she is looking to improve all the time.

“Keely has a very aggressive style and most opponents struggle with her power and constant attacks.

“She fights by the motto ‘attack is the best form of defence’ as that is certainly the case if you see her fight.”

Keely has now gone one better than her older brother Daniel who won the Commonwealth title - although he does have 11 British crowns.

“Daniel is at the age now where he is working and has a girlfriend so he is taking a bit of time out of the sport. But they have definitely pushed each other on over the years,” said Billy.
