TWO Ribble Valley boxers are looking to make a name for themselves after stepping in to the ring for the first time.

Milo Roncetti, 15, and 13-year-old Toro Croft-Senior made their fighting debuts for Ribble Valley Fitness Centre and Amateur Boxing Club last month and are now looking to progress their fledgling boxing careers in the next 12 months.

The two youngsters impressed in the ring and got the judges decision much to the delight of club coaches, friends and family.

And those winning performances were witnessed by former world champion Anthony Crolla who presented trophies to the winning fighters.

“They have been training at the club for quite some time now and during that time, have learnt the basics of boxing and have progressed on to developing those skills further,” said coach Mohammed Sirtaj, who is known as Taj. “Now both boys are fully licenced amateur boxers for the club.

“They both competed in and put on a brave performance showing off their acquired boxing skills in the ring in front of hundreds of spectators. They both performed exceptionally well.

“Watch this space as there is plenty more action to come from these two boys.”

But the club does not just concentrate on producing boxers but also uses the sport as a form of exercise.

For the club, which is fully Affiliated by the Amateur Boxing Association of England & England Boxing, offers classes for children over eight and also boxing fitness classes for adults.

And the classes are proving to be a success, especially with the youngsters of Clitheroe and surrounding areas.

“We encourage children and adults to get involved in the sport of boxing. as it is a great way to keep fit and active,” added Taj.

“Boxing keeps young kids out of trouble and provides them with a controlled environment where they can release any stress or anger out onto the punching bags and at the same time get a good workout from it.

“It is equally beneficial to adults as boxing training is known and proven to be the best type of fitness training available.”

The club is a fully equipped fitness centre with strength machines, free weights and a cardio area with a variety of cardio machines.

Boxing classes are on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Kids classes are from 5.30-6.30pm.

Adult classes are on the same days (6.30-7.30pm). The fitness centre is open six days a week (10am-9pm) Monday to Friday and (10am-4pm) Saturdays.
