BLACKBURN Rovers Under-12s will travel to Ypres, Belgium to compete in the Premier League Truce Tournament next month.

The young footballers secured their qualification by seeing off competition from Aston Villa, Burnley, Hull City, Liverpool, Manchester United, Middlesbrough, Newcastle United, Stoke City, Sunderland and Wolverhampton Wanderers in a qualifying tournament held at RAF Cosford in Wolverhampton.

In addition to Blackburn Rovers, Manchester City Under-12s also qualified in the same tournament.

The annual Premier League Truce Tournament, which began in 2011, commemorates those who lost their lives in both World Wars and ties in with the national curriculum for the Academy U12s age group.

In total, 29 Premier League and Football League Academy groups (Under 12s) took part in the qualifiers which were held this weekend at Aldershot Army Garrison, Portsmouth Naval Base and RAF Cosford.

The Blackburn Rovers side join fellow English representatives Crystal Palace, West Ham United and Manchester City in travelling to Belgium, where they will compete against R.S.C. Anderlecht, Club Brugge KV, FC Schalke 04 and Paris Saint-Germain F.C for the three day tournament that will take place from December 9-11.

With the qualifying tournament taking place on Remembrance Sunday, all clubs took part in a ceremony ahead of kick-off, which included wreath-laying, a member of each academy reading aloud the names of fallen soldiers associated with their club, two minutes’ silence and the Last Post.
