ACCRINGTON’S Mikey Worswick will challenge for the World Professional KickBoxing title on home turf later this year.

Worswick can boast an impressive track record, having collected a dozen national and international titles, and he will get the chance to lift the ISKA world crown in front of his own supporters at the Audley Sports and Community Centre on October 1.

Mikey’s most recent win saw him overcome Londoner Charlie Bibby for the British title and Jason Curtis who his student to the European title predicted it would be the biggest fight of his Worswick’s career.

“He fought for the world title in Germany in 2013 and was only beaten on points so this is going to be a huge moment for him,” said Curtis.

“Mikey is definitely a better boxer now and hopefully he can be crowned world champion in Lancashire.”

He added: “Mikey is the number one challenger for the world crowns at both weights and he has worked incredibly hard to get to where he is at in his career.”

Worswick, 24, will fight Spaniard Pedro Martinez for the vacant 75kg title.

“Pedro is the European title holder, so we are really looking forward to another huge night.”

Mikey’s coach said they would like to thank his main sponsor, Mr Ian Walbank from Clitheroe.

The under card will feature English and British junior titles as well as two senior competition finals.

Tickets are on sale at £25 each, contact Jason Curtis, 07715 811646.
