Lancashire Wolverines 27

Sheffield Predators 0

A RAIN-SOAKED Blackburn Rugby Club played host to the Lancashire Wolverines’ second win of the season, as the home team took apart the travelling Sheffield Predators despite several key players missing.

With quarterback David Mead suspended for this game and back-up Jack Barton absent, it was left to wide receiver Sam Bloomfield to change position.

But it didn’t stop the offence from firing early, as Bloomfield drove them methodically downfield, with support from running back Chris Littler, before a quick pass over the middle to John Halliwell got the first touchdown of the game.

And it wasn’t long before a second touchdown was on the board as Bloomfield took off himself, running for the corner of the end zone with a lone Sheffield Predator defensive back blocking his route.

The quarterback simply bowled through him though and went in for the second score.

This time, kicker Paul Stewart converted and made the score 13-0.

The rain began to come down heavier and thus both teams began to rely on their running game, with Littler and Bloomfield bearing much of the brunt.

It would be the former that would get his name on the scoresheet next, as the running back danced in from 10 yards out for a long-awaited touchdown.

A half-time scoreline of 19-0 gave the Wolverines breathing space and a chance to rotate some players in the second half.

Bloomfield connected with a wide open Luc Kinder early in the third quarter, with the wide receiver punishing the Predators for such a mistake, running in for another touchdown before a safety from team captain Chris Anderson added a final two points to the board.

With a 27-0 win, and an all-important shutout, the Wolverines will be looking forward to pitting themselves against top-of-the-division Tamworth at Blackburn Rugby Club in just under a fortnight’s time.
