A STUDENT from Whitworth Community High School won her competition at the Stockport Spring 4 piece apparatus competition.

The success of 14-year-old Eleanor Pratt helped her club – Rochdale Olympic Gymnastics Club – to win the overall trophy for the 15th year in succession.

The Year 9 student said: “I was first in the bars and vault, second in the beam and fifth on the floor, and overall I came first in my age group 14 and 14 plus.”

Eleanor has always been sporty and used to take part in karate and football with her brother, but more recently has been attending the gymnastics club three times a week and completing nine hours of practice.

Eleanor, of Shawclough, said: “It is a nice hobby, I like flipping and I like the social side of the sport.

“I didn’t expect to do as well as I did because the last competition I was in I was a pre-novice and I did not get placed, this time I entered as a novice.”

Eleanor has also had to contend with injuries; she damaged her toes twice, once on the beam and then on a trampoline.

She added: “In total our club won 70 medals and a massive trophy for being the best club.”
