WELLFIELD Methodist and Anglican Church School enjoyed a net gain after booking their place in the SPAR Lancashire School Games.

More than 200 children from 28 schools from across Burnley took part in the netball competition event which saw Wellfield beat Worsthorne Primary School 5-3 in the final match and to claim their county finals place.

Elsewhere, wet and windy conditions didn’t stop pupils from Christ the King Roman Catholic Primary School storming to success in an orienteering event which held at Towneley Park – overcoming competition from almost 140 children from 23 schools.

The pupils will now go on to represent the district at the SPAR Lancashire School Games county finals where they will compete against teams from 14 other Lancashire districts to be named county champions in high five netball and orienteering.

Helen Tyson, who is the school games organiser for Burnley and arranged the events, said: “Excitement is really building now and it’s wonderful to see children so passionate about sport, determined to get their hands on those last few county finals places.

“I’d like to thank all involved in coordinating the high five netball and orienteering competitions, and offer my congratulations to both Wellfield Methodist and Anglican Church School and Christ the King Roman Catholic Primary School for coming out on top.

“Let’s hope for more success next month in Blackpool.”
