WILPSHIRE Wanderers Under 13s are the 'mini invincibles' after winning the league and cup double without losing a single game.

The all-conquering Wanderers stormed to glory in the Accrington and District Boys League then added the cup after victory in the final held at Clitheroe FC's Shawbridge ground.

It was a feat made all the more remarkable as Wanderers could only manage a seventh place finish in the league last season.

But it was a real team effort that guided Wanderers to glory as they beat all before them in a campaign they will never forget.

The champions won all 18 league games to finish on the maximum 54 points - 13 points ahead of Padiham Saints Juniors whose own impressive record of 13 wins and just three defeats could well have been good enough to win the title in any other season.

Wilpshire also won four games in the cup, culminating with a 3-0 win against Great Harwood Rovers to finish with a 100 per cent league and cup record of 22 games and 22 wins.

Manager Martin James said it was a bit of good old fashioned TLC that turned his team from mid-table obscurity to league champions.

"We made a few changes of position for some players and bit of TLC which resulted in a very attack minded formation of 3-3-4 formation," said James who was assisted by Joe Thompson and Ian Doctor.

"The end result was that we scored 177 goals with Alex Haworth finishing as leading scoring with 55 goals.

"The league campaign was a huge improvement from the season before where we finished in seventh place which shows the huge strides the team has made over the past 12 months.

"It was a real team effort from the entire squad over the season and we are all immensely proud of their achievements."

The double-winning squad included: Cameron Russell, Josh Mallinson, Isaac Wilkinson, Sam James, Will Lucas, Nick Cunliffe, Elliott Whalley, Elliot Cook, Sam Farnworth, Dom Traynor, Alex Haworth, Ryan Newton, Thomas Wilson and Henry Rhodes.
