Rossendale 19

Waterloo 21

A PENALTY kick in the dying minutes denied Rossendale of a much needed win at home to Waterloo, a side who had previously never won at Marl Pits.

Although hit by injury to a number of senior players the home side started the better and opened with a try from James Bramhall, a quick tap from a scrum penalty by Ryan De La Harpe putting the outside half over, Steve Nutt slotting the conversion.

Alex Hurst brought up the second. From a scrum 20 metres out George Peel entered the line from the opposite wing and although tackled short, De La Harpe was on hand to link with Bramhall to put the youngster over for 12-0 at the interval.

Waterloo came back in the second period with a try by Jacob Allen after pressure from the pack created enough space for Freeman Payne to put James Robbins through the gap before sending the supporting winger over the line.

Rossendale replied, a quick tap by Danny Collins and with Rob Foxen up in support Jordan Lord went over for 19-5.

However a penalty by Liam Reeve followed by two tries in quick succession from Allen, his second, the wingman standing up the defence in a superb solo effort and Nick Richardson from a driving maul brought the visitors to within a point leaving Reeve to secure a vital win for the Merseyside outfit.
