West Lancashire League

THE relegation trapdoor is swinging open for struggling Burnley United as they let victory slip through their fingers at Hesketh Bank.

Burnley were on course for their first away success of the campaign when Oliver Wood fired them in front late on, but the home side levelled through Jon Stead to deny the visitors, who remain in the bottom two.

At the top, leaders Fulwood Amateurs extended their lead at the summit to 10 points after a crushing 6-2 win over Vickerstown with Rick Coar scoring four times for Tony Hesketh’s men.

Longridge remain in the hunt for a top-three finish and Lee Ashcroft’s team raced to another impressive away win, 4-3 at Slyne with Hest.

Brad Carsley scored twice for the visitors, but when Slyne forged ahead deep into the second half, it looked bleak for Longridge. However, Corey Bent drew Longridge level before Connor Linnigan made sure of the points with a last-minute winner.

Haslingden St Marys are going well in Division One and a routine 3-0 win over Askam United saw them bolster fifth place with a John Ollett double and an Alex White strike handing them another maximum points haul.

Mill Hill St Peters remain in trouble at the foot of the table, though, and a 2-0 defeat at Hawcoat Park did nothing to help their cause as they remain in the bottom three. Ladybridge, in third place, lost 3-2 at Wrye Villa. Liam Blackburn and Jason Mannion scored for the visitors.

Meanwhile, Hurst Green booked a place in the third round of the WLFL Presidents Cup as Jake Craven struck twice in the final couple of minutes at GSK Ulverston Rangers.

In Division One Reserves, Haslingden crashed 4-0 at Burscough Richmond while Hurst Green (Tom Bamber) were held 1-1 at Coppull United. Lostock St Gerards re-wrote the record books as Adam Clare and Jonathan Haggerty both scored trebles in a 13-1 romp at Leyland United.
