BURNLEY'S Sandygate Amateur Boxing Club hit the asphalt once more first sending Senior hopeful Reece Farnhill (18) against Yorkshire's Gary Davey (Henrys ABC) at 69kg in York, Davey who boxes out of ex professional Henry Whartons gymnasium boasted a exceptional record going into the bout and it was a measured risk by the Hargreaves Street boxing club, the first of the 3 minute rounds was a full on explosion of power and work rate as both lads set to not wanting to take a step backwards, Farnhill ended the round slightly ahead, the second round Farnhill took control connecting well with his lead hand, rear hand hook combinations wearing down the durable Davey, half way through the round Farnhill connected with a perfect rear hand followed by a flurry of combinations which were unanswered by the Yorkshireman giving the referee no option but too administer a standing eight count, Davey was to savvy to get caught again and resorted to clinching to damper the Sandygate boxers flow. The third and final turned into a masterclass by the exciting pugilist from Sabden as his fitness and pinpoint punching didn't go unnoticed by the man-in-the-middle either as he had to give Davey another standing eight count towards the end of the round after a barrage of blows saw the Yorkshireman wobble once more, saved by the bell it went to the judges score cards who returned a unanimous win for the exciting Sandygate fighter. The juniors of the club made the rather shorter distance to Manchester's Fox ABC, North West Minors Champion Hasan 'King' Khan (12) made a return to the squared circle since his success last season boxing Lewis Hodson (Middleton Select ABC) in what was a tight affair as both boys boxed very similar styles non-stop forward,it was hard to call each round although the Sandygate youngster had a bit more success in the clinches the bout was so close it ended a split decision on the score cards ringside, but it went in favour of Sandygate's Khan giving the club a great start, Club mate and fellow North West Minors Champ Rio 'DJ' Lynch (12) was matched with home fighter Kai Winstanley (Fox ABC), Stoops-Estate Lynch controlled proceedings straight from the opening exchanges rolling under the lead and switch hitting at ease, catching the mancunian frequently, in the second and third the elusive Hameldon year 8 pupil's footwork and speed was apparent as he danced around the canvas connecting in every exchange and moving out in phases it was no surprise Fox ABC's old boy and new World Lightweight Champion Anthony Crolla gave the exciting Sandygate boy the mantle of best visiting boxer agreeing with all the judge ringside who delivered a unanimous verdict in his favour. Hoping to end the night with a clean sweep for the Burnley Club North West Schoolboy Champion Ighten Hill's Smokin'Joe Crawford (13) faced Liverpool's Matty Pearson (Birkenhead ABC), Pearson who is a two time National Finalist at the year above was too prove a tough test for the year 8 St.Christophers pupil, from the opening exchanges the taller Pearson tried to work his lead hand jab but the forward fighting Crawford controlled the first 1 1/2minute round rolling and slipping into the scoring zone connecting well with his uppercut hook combos, the second again saw Crawford dominate catching the Liverpuddulian in short burst before tightening his guard, the third was again to be the exciting Crawfords working harder and faster up-to the final bell earning him and the popular club another unanimous verdict for the successful Sandygate.
