THE saying ‘wait for a bus for ages then two come along at once’ is certainly true for Clitheroe bowler Eric Wallace.

Having booked his place in his first national final in 33 years, Wallace has done it again just two weeks later.

The 67-year-old had already reached the finals of the ‘fours’ alongside Darwen’s John Schofield in Nottinghham when he repeated the feat, this time in the trebles.

Teaming up with Steve Airey and Eric Rawcliffe - who are both members of the ‘fours’ - they beat a triple from Coventry 19-9 in the inter-area final qualifier in the over 50s event to secure another place at the national finals in Nottingham next month. After such a long wait to reach the indoor finals Wallace finds himself there in two events which are played consecutively over the Easter weekend.

“After waiting so long to qualify it’s simply a dream come true to get there twice in the same year,” said Wallace.

“Obviously I am really looking forward to the whole event and we will give it our best shot. Who knows what will happen when we get there.”
