IT WAS a mixed night for Feniscowles teams in the In the John Greenhalgh Trophy i

The more fancied A team, currently lying second in division 1 went out 5-3 at second division Hollins Grove. Dan Hook took the opener for Hollins beating Andy Livesey and Cam Bell made it 2 seeing off Steve Williams. Fenny pulled one back in the pairs when Ammi Dippolito and Baz Holden beat Bell and Gaz Hillman but Hillman made it 3-1 with a narrow win over Holden.

Fenny skipper Dippolito played well to beat George Holden but Holden and partner Graham Melia restored the two frame lead in the last pairs.

Dave Houghton faced Andy Stone in the next and with both players realising it's importance it was a cagey affair. It was nip and tuck all the way and only settled when Houghton took on a risky yellow that didn't quite make it. Stone took full advantage to make it 4-3.

Frame eight was all Hollins's Melia, opponent Eric Knowles never got much of a chance and succumbed 74-43 to put Hollins into the semis in their first league season.

The Fenny B team by contrast enjoyed what at first glance looks a surprisingly easy win against Mill Hill B. It wasn't as easy as the 5-1 scoreline suggests. James Leigh put Fenny 1-0 up but Bernard Goulding was in good form to make it 1-1. The opening doubles went to Fenny's Andy Allen and Allen Grogan but only on the black after a close affair against Pete Arkwright and Mick Killilea.

Leon Pinch came out on top in his encounter with Liam Cooper and Alan Grogan had to be at his best to beat the stubborn Arkwright. It was over in the last doubles when Leigh and Dave Sears won another black ball frame, this time against Darren Heggie and Lol Prior.

Park Hotel's up and down season suffered another down as they went out in sudden death against Orchard Social. Steve Aspinall gave Park the opener with an easy win over Andy Wilson but Dave Brown beat Dave O'Kane in the next. Brown and regular partner Dan Heald took the first pairs and Heald made it 3-1 Orchard when he beat Steve Halliwell. Mark Jennings was steadiness personified as he pulled one back against Orchard skipper Paul Keryk but could do nothing in the last pairs as he and partner Ian Dickinson were beaten by Keryk and Dom Hampson. Baz O'Kane looked good as he made it 4-3 with an easy defeat of Hampson and victory for Ian Dickinson in frame 8 forced the sudden death frame. It was Baz O'Kane for Park against Wilson for Orchard but unfortunately for Park O'Kane was unable to repeat his earlier heroics and went down 64-32.

Darwen's Anchor Hotel made the semis with a 5-2 win against Blackburn Golf B. The returning Luke Hargreaves got Anchor away well beating Mark Gorzella and Sean Bradshaw made it 2-0 with a solid performance against Phil Wignall. The Golfers got one back in the doubles when Stan Cook and Paul Upton beat Bob Graves and Brian Stamp by a single point. Anchor's Steve Owen increased the lead with a win over Jim Amos but back came Blackburn, Stan Cook proving too strong for Stuart Hargreaves. Owen and Bradshaw combined well for Anchor and their win over Wignall and Gorzella put them within a point of victory. It was Bernard Flaherty who got them over the line with a convincing win over Peter Zarac.
